On April 5, 2025, we proudly rolled back into Veterans Park for the third annual Touch-a-Truck event in Alabaster—and we loved every minute of it.

For us, Touch-a-Truck isn’t just about putting our lawn care equipment on display. It’s about showing up for the community that’s supported us since 2002. As a local business deeply rooted in Alabaster, we take pride in more than just crisp mow lines and clean edges—we care about people, families, and connection.

Spring in Alabama brings a burst of color and energy after a long winter. Lawns green up, flowers start to bloom, and garden beds beg for attention. One of the simplest and most effective ways to freshen up your landscape this time of year is by laying down a fresh layer of pine straw.

At Steven’s Wack-n-Sack, we know that pine straw isn’t just about looks—it plays a key role in maintaining a healthy, functional yard. Here’s why spring is the ideal time to put it down and how to get the most from your investment.

You might begin seeing weeds pop up across your lawn—and you’re not alone. As temperatures rise and spring kicks in, weeds are often the first thing to show signs of life. While your grass may still be waking up from winter dormancy, weeds are already taking root, flowering, and spreading. What starts as a small patch in the corner of your yard can quickly turn into a lawn-wide invasion if left unchecked.

As temperatures start warming up, fire ants become more active, making their way to the surface and expanding their colonies. These aggressive pests aren’t just a nuisance—they can pose real dangers to your family, pets, and even your lawn. The key to keeping them under control? Early intervention before their colonies grow out of hand.

Crape myrtles are one of the most iconic landscape trees in the South, with their stunning summer blooms and beauty. But every year, we see homeowners unknowingly butchering these trees with aggressive pruning—often referred to as “crape murder.” If you want bigger, healthier blooms and a tree that maintains its natural beauty, it’s important to prune correctly—and at the right time. Here’s everything you need to know about proper crape myrtle pruning.

Can You Stop Weeds Before They Start? A beautiful lawn starts before weeds even appear. If you wait until you see weeds sprouting, you’re already fighting an uphill battle. Pre-emergent herbicides are the secret weapon of a healthy, weed-free yard, stopping unwanted plants before they have a chance to grow. But timing is everything. Apply

If your crape myrtles aren’t looking their best—covered in grayish-white clusters and a black, sooty coating—you may be dealing with Crape Myrtle Bark Scale (CMBS). This invasive pest has become a growing concern across Alabama, affecting landscapes and reducing the health and beauty of these popular ornamental trees.

Spring is almost here, and that means it’s time to give your lawn a fresh start. A proper spring cut-down isn’t only about making your yard look neat—it’s a critical step to promote healthy grass growth, reduce thatch buildup, and prepare your lawn for the hot Alabama summer.

Valentine’s Day is all about love—so why not show some affection to the greenest relationship in your life? Your lawn has been with you through thick and thin, from backyard barbecues to crisp autumn mornings. And while February might not seem like prime lawn care season, a little TLC now can set your yard up for a lush, healthy spring.

When it comes to lawn care, there’s no shortage of advice floating around—from your neighbor’s “tried-and-true” tips to outdated information passed down like an old family recipe. Unfortunately, many of these so-called tips can do more harm than good. At Steven’s Wack-N-Sack, we believe in keeping your lawn healthy and thriving with the right information. Let’s
